I am for Congressional term limits:
4 max terms for the House
2 max terms for the Senate

ELECTIONS for ALL Judges with Mandatory Constitutional classwork, JUST LIKE they make Trial Attorneys do!!

FC I am not saying that I feel like I am being racist. I just feel like I am prejudging people. Sometimes based on something as minor as a bumper sticker. Pat listed 3 things and sometimes depending on the mood I'm in I'll see a Palin sticker and think. That person must be an idiot. I'll see a McCain/Palin sticker and I'll think. Well they are voting wrong but they can't help that McCain got stuck with her.

These people are probably great people. They probably have great kids and are great people in general, but based on a bumper sticker I prejudge them.

I'm just saying that prejudging people like that is as bad as racism. Racist prejudge the value of a person based on their skin color. I would hate to see this country get like Ireland was 20 years ago.

No I disagree on this

Look up the definition of predjudice.
They mostly tend to run like the following examples:

"An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts.

"to prepossess with opinions formed without due knowledge or examination; to bias the mind of, by hasty and incorrect notions"

"Prejudice is a baseless and usually negative attitude toward members of a group"

"A preconceived preference or idea."

If you have a mental image of what A Democrat (or whatever) is like, and assuming that when you see someone with a Dem sticker on their car they have those personality traits and behavioral tendencies, and are in general a rubberstamp version of some (probably negative) stereotype of People Who Are Of That Party -- that is prejudice.

As opposed to waiting to find out what the person, as an individual, is REALLy like.

Hey Big Daddy
I went back and read your post....oops, I thought you said you did think you were being racist, but reading it again, you just compared something to that....sorry for the misinterpt of what you wrote.

I do see what you are saying now.

I missed how that post was written Pat....I know what you guys are referring to now....and yes, it happens. We all do that. Normally not one person is without that type of judgement.

Why term limits? Won't we just end up with inexperienced people in office all the time? Why not have the opportunity to keep someone good and vote out someone bad? Don't term limits take that choice away from the people, replacing it with an inflexible rule that allows for no accommodation when a good representative is in office? And why have judges be elected politicians too (rather than just good lawyers and scholars)? I'd rather deal with a judge who was smart and thoughtful rather than one who won a popularity contest (though good judges can win elections too).

(I'm not challenging your point of view, just asking! :))

I'm with you on the term limits. We have a Republican congressman who has listened and acted on our concerns. I do not want to lose this incredible representative because of term limits. I say this as a progressive liberal democrat who votes for this one republican only. He can still support and vote with his party while serving his constituents fairly. We need more like him overall.

All our local judges are elected.
HOWEVER- I'm not happy with the Supreme Court after their eminent domain decision and would like their life terms to be reduced. There are many candidates with years of primary constitutional law experience, (not those taking up constitutional law after retirement in other areas of law) that could fill those positions.
I'd like to see the chief justice be either elected by the people or by the judges of the Supreme Court.

Good point. Limiting term limits shifts voting responsibility away from us to something built into the system structure instead.
