My little girls have just begun to lay- I'm so proud of them! - but I have a question: How long do they lay ping-pong ball sized eggs before graduating to 'real' sized ones? I'm getting 2 to 3 per day from my six oldest girls (Buff Orpington's), but they are all small. Asked a family member who has had chickens for a while and she said "A few days". It's been over a week. Am I doing something wrong?

A few days is pushing it... A couple of weeks, I would say.

Thank you for such quick replies! I feel better knowing I'm not doing something horrible to my girls! :p

One of my 5 girls just started to lay last week. They are banty egg sized, but so cute! Hoping they will get normal sized pretty soon, tho.

Mine layed about one or two weird ones each first, then started to lay awesome eggs, and we got the most double-yolkers right at first too.

Funny, I always seemed to get more double yolkers from the 2nd year layers rather than the pullets.

I still get oddball small eggs from time to time with our flock from anyone of the girls. They range in age from 2-5 years old, no supplemental light or heat.

We have an all bantam flock, but some of the eggs are way-small at times and suspect it's just natural changes that they go through over time.

our girls laid itty bitties in various time frames (we have all different breeds) but some laid the pullet eggs for 3 weeks others for almost 2 months...every so often well get a pulet sized one or a fart egg now there alittle over a year but for the most part regular sized eggs started comming around the 4 weeks of laying mark.
