My freezers are full, and I'm almost out of canning jars. I really need to find more canning jars, I WILL not pay full rice for them.

we have been getting jars all the time at the local thrift stores good will, mission store, for around $3.00 a dozen. some of them are nasty and it may be a mix of quarts and pints, kerr and ball but for 3 bucks a dozen i aint complaining. they also have rings sometime, they will be in a separate bag and will be full of them for 50 cents or so.

I pick 'em up throughout the year, too. Plus, not many people in my family can, so they pick them up for me.

Start calling friends to see if they have any they don't use. Get the word out. Friends call more friends, relatives and so on. Surely, someone will have a few to give.

Is there a local newspaper w/ free classifieds, or bulletin boards at local supermarkets/feedstores/church/library, where you could tack up a sign saying in large friendly letters "Canning jars wanted, call <your number here>"?

Good luck, have fun,

My very last pint jar is in the canner now. I really don't want to buy more jars................ we've started eating up canned stuff already, just so I have more jars.

Our local WalMart had qts and pints on sale a few weeks back. We bought another 10 cases of pint jars(8.00 a dozen!) to get us through this season. The problem we are facing now is, where to store all the jars AFTER we have eaten what we canned. I am going to need another shed just for jars!

I've put the word out with my mom. She should be able to find some from some of the older ladies at church who (hopefully) don't can anymore. I'm always too late for the canning jars on kijiji, but I will put a wanted ad on there.

Put them back on the shelves upside down. You had room to store the jars *full*, obviously you have room for them empty too :)
