Best bet would be to enroll DS12 in riding lessons.....horse-craziness is often outgrown and it is good to know if she is really insane (like me, BBH, and others here) or if she will outgrow it BEFORE investing in a very expensive project......Make sure you have a healthy amount of money for vet care and farrier, especially for a Cushings horse....and they often need more than half a bale a day, especially in winter. Weekly lessons, often at around $40 each, are MUCH cheaper than keeping a horse!

Been there, done that, bought the tshirt! Ok, I really MADE the tshirt.... :p

Just my opinion, but if you're looking for a first horse, don't get one that you already know has health problems. It can be challenging for someone that already knows how to care for a horse, let alone a 1st time horse owner.
