I find myself at a very interesting point.

I have several friends coming to me with children who are having health problems. I try to explain the plight of today's society and the fact that the children are malnourished and suffering. I have a hard time communicating these facts and getting people to believe me. I refer them to the Weston A Price web page but I feel these people are overwhelmed. I would like some more direct links to two subjects.

Two links I really need.

diet and autism, how one is connected to the other.

ADHD, and diet.

Thank you,

gina

Good luck..honestly.

Our grandson is/was ADHD. I never saw a newborn baby that wouldn't sleep. Our daughter breast fed, she had what most of us would call a healthy diet. I bought two books, diets, etc. We tried it all. Nothing helped that kid until he got on some medication. He's 16 now, hasn't been on medication for a long time. He gradually outgrew it, as I did - even though they say that you don't.

Of course, some things made it worse - sugar, artificial colors, etc. The crazy thing is that caffeine has the opposite reaction for some (not all) of those kids - like my nephew. I wasn't going to give a 7 yr old kid a cup of coffee even though his mother told me to. The next day I was willing to try anything and the coffee really did help calm him down.

I believe that some of it is genetic. I was hyper as a kid (I'm 59 now) and the ex son in law was hyper, too. JMO.

I never fully understood these kids until I had one living with us. Before that, I had plenty of opinions and thought most of it was poor parenting and lousy diets. Munch, munch, I sure ate those words.

Lemme hunt through my links :) There are a lot of good sites about it. Auntie will surely help too, once she is home :)

Ketosis and seizures (since a lot of things that help seizures help autism, right down to the prescription of anti-convulsive meds to auties, I figure this is relevant:

More on how ketosis helps in seizures:

Dietary options for autistics:

This one is interesting because it lists a LOT of diets. Ketosis and Nourishing Traditions are on the list.

More on how high fat helps autism. It points out, rightly, that there have been no REAL studies done. So far, it is all anecdotal.

Show them the pictures that Dr Price took, and get yourself a copy of Sally's seminar, and host a showing at your house with non scary foods to munch on.

I really learned a lot from the Feingold Association or Feingold.org when I first suspected our child had ADD. It has a lot of information on why those dyes etc are bad for our children. They give you a lot of what to avoid and what you can still let your child have.

Others have already mentioned other resources so I won't repeat but to be honest most people I share our diet with (we are paleo/primal due to food allergies) poo poo at it and say it is not necessary and how we are depriving our kids of their childhood memories of eating this and that, I get a lot of those comments :he
but they all can see the difference in the behavior of our child ten fold but they think it's too much work to apply to own their lives

My friend has a difficult child. She mentioned to me she is suspecting things.... I asked if she is having her daughter evaluated and suggested she do some reading in the meantime.

I can tell you this child has major food issues both texture and color. I also know she is very under weight. There are other things as well. :(

I know its going to be a difficult road.

No problem :) Hope it helps!!! Auties seem to need more good fats than the average person, what with all the brain damage :)
