I used to live in Illinois. There were a LOT of social programs there.

My dh works there so this affects his paycheck now!

Rumor has it that NC will lay off 21,000 state workers this year...but if they all get 3 years of UIB, will that actually be saving much money...? :idunno

I didn't hear that 2bz

hmm...I know NC will have to do something like other states. States are just going broke.

remember the "olden" days when people would kill for a state job cause it was "stable for life practically"...hmm not any more it seems.

not a darn thing is stable or guaranteed in these financial times.

next 5 years are going to be horrible between rising costs, job loss and tax increases and stupid gas prices lol my gas bill per month is darn near someone's mortgage payment :th

Taxes will go down when the government does. No sense thinking of it any other way. I'm just glad I have my animals to produce for me and am learning more ways to take care of the necessities myself. Lower taxes  what a joke, that ship has long since sailed. LOADS of folks will be in hot water before this is over said and done. I'm just trying to not be one of those folks.

yea I am being as smart as I can also. Told hubby that this is a time to crack down harder on our finances. Cause trouble is brewing over the next few years. I sure know the bad times are far from over.

FC, I can't remember now where I heard that number, whether on the local news or read it in the Raleigh N&O.

Anyway, as they always said in the Star Wars movies, "I have a bad feeling about this..." :/

Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better, IMHO.

I hope everyone is planning on a big garden this year if you can. I'm planting LOTSA corn and wheat(GMO free) for the animals this year. Luckily I have access to a huge portion of the neighbors yard for this ;) Time to buckle up for the looooong ride ahead.
