Silly me. Denise IS in CA isn't she?
I know they have lower rates, but I think the lowest is about 25. or so..
My internet service is around $30 a month at my apt. and that is Charter.

That has been an issue in the past yes, but other issues are that (for us) dial-up is often faster (and cheaper) and the fact that even a light sprinkle or strong wind knocks us out of service, as does snow. We have a neighbor who has the same problem.

I'm glad that you've had better luck with them!
I'll second that. We got wildblue when we first moved to NE, and I tried for 3 days to connect to my VPN for work, and it was too slow, I kept timing out. We got hooked up through our phone company, with a package deal and its much faster, never have issues when the wind blows or anything.

I just started working for Open Range and they build towers and you pick up signal from them on a modem, and they push rural areas. No clue if they are where you are cuz I'm not at work to look, but they are a pretty decent company.

Wildblue offers a package for29.95 a month with a satellite dish.
Its pretty good. my neighbors have it and they put the dish where they can reach it to brush the snow off.

We have to stand on a picnic table, on our tippietoes, WITH a broom to reach it up on the garage

I wonder if they make two/three sided + roof covered enclosures that can protect the satellite?

I have my Internet through ATT as well. I think I can get the line to the house with no phone service for 6 bucks. But the Internet is running me 30 as well. I have thought about canceling the whole shebang and getting a Verizon Droid. The data packages are coming down big time. I will probably do that when we commit to moving. So all my stuff will just go with me.

I have a co-worker who brought her laptop to work searching for a signal. She found a few. She spoke of buying an antenia for the office and that we could get service from an 8 mile range.
I have no idea if this will work. And I have no idea if she really will do it. But it will be interesting.
