You've been eating the Christmas cookies again, haven't you? :gig

I can't wait til I get my hands on some REAL cream (have I mentioned lately that I WANNA GOAT?) and I can use the hand-cranked butter churn (with a wooden paddle) and the wooden butter molds that came from my Dad's side of the family :D

Lucky you!!!

Back to my earlier question, can you make butter from goat and or sheep's milk? Do you need a special seperator?

I've seen that you can make butter from goat's milk. Some let it sit in the frig and rise naturally for a few days, and just collect the cream until they have enough. Others use a separator. With as much butter and 1/2&1/2 as I use, I'll prolly need to get a cow, too, eventually. Or at least a cow share. Still working on a source for raw milk of some sort....

Not to be confused with making butter in the raw.

Sorry about the bad pun, I couldn't help myself.:idunno
 :welcome I agree, you're going to fit right in here!

I wish I could get raw milk around here, but I can't. One of these days, I hope to either breed the goaties, or get a cow.

what!?!? are you kidding me?!?! get out there and make pancakes or biscuits! thats the real mccoy - real, not cultured buttermilk, whooot!

i didnt have a lot of luck getting cream from the goats. goat milk doesnt separate like cows milk - and a separator is really expensive. when i did get some cream it make like a half a cup of butter .....and took up all the space in the fridge for like a week.

and yes, Bethanial, we need cows. all of us. now. cows for all!

You've been eating the Christmas cookies again, haven't you?

I made some lovely butter from my goat's milk but don't bother after the fun experiment. I had to skim a few tablespoons of cream off every gallon on cheesemaking day and put it into a container in the freezer until I had a quart. It took forever, then I was making cheese from partially skimmed milk.

The butter was very white and delicious, but unless I had no way to get butter, it was way too much work. I packed the butter into little 4 oz canning jars and froze it, doling it out on special occasions. Mostly popcorn.

Oh, to have the land to support a little Jersey cow!

Buttermilk pancakes!! I don't know why I didn't put two and two together! It didn't taste like buttermilk..I guess that's why. Good thing I saved it.
