In Defense of Food:An eater's manifesto by Michael Pollen

BBH, you saw Food Inc. in the theatre, so you probably didn't see the deleted scenes did you? There were quite a few long and informative scenes that did not make "the grade." Interesting.
OOOOH, thanks for telling me that! Now I am going to rent it! :ya It is one of those films that you need to watch more than once just in case you aren't mad enough the first time!

It gradually becomes your way of life. I can sit at the computer or watch TV. Instead I'm making sure I've got simple ingredients I can use to make simple foods. I love my crockpot. I love my freezer. I love my microwave. And I love the ideas and advice I get from everyone on this forum!

I agree, BBH. Since my husband and I both got sucked into the deleted scenes, we can't remember how the movie officially ended! :th

Pat -- I have to say that I admire your ability to nearly repeat verbatim what you wrote before . . . that happened to be on the forum about Hikerchick's financial woes.
Whoopsie! Sorry about that! Some days I just have no idea what I'm doing. OTOH that means I was not mistaken in thinking I *did* post it... :P :P :P

Pat

LOL Pat, that is why I spoke up . . . so you would know you weren't having some kind of weird deja vu experience or something. ;) I think there were several simultaneous threads about food involving the same people, so your confusion is understandable. Sometimes I get confused about which thread someone said this or that in too.

I added the movie to my Netflix que. (we have netflix for movies and such instead of fancy cable :P - living in the middle of nowhere there are no places to rent movies)

Wildsky -- I don't think you will be disappointed! :)

There is a thread about Food Inc. somewhere on here that I was thinking about resurrecting. It seemed more pertinent to write my impression of the movie on this thread instead, though.

Enjoy the Ride: Do you have the measurements for the dressing recipe ? I hate speding money on salt and preservatives and unknown ingredients that the salad dressings in the supermkt sell anywhere from 99 cents to 8 dollars. Would you pls email me ribbit29@hotmail.com? Diane PS my chicks eat better than me at times due to spending money on this garbage................

Hikerchick, if you have one day (or even part of the day)that you can set aside to prep for the week, it will help you immensely. There are a bunch of make ahead mix recipes posted on here that are timesavers, and healthier and cheaper versions of what ou get at the store. You could make some of them up. precook some food and keep them in your fridge, ready to heat up when you need.

When you come home from the grocery store, wash all your produce right away and store it proper, and cut up the celery, carrots broccoli etc. so it is there waiting for you when you need it--so much of a time saver, and since it is handy, when you have the munchies, since it is right there, you could grab the veggies rather than that convenient cookie or whatever.

think big batches and leftovers when you do cook. Your committed anyways, might as well add in some extra for a few more meals. leftovers are awesome!!, nd if it looks like it will be in the fridge for more than a few days, make up some TV dinners and throw in the freezer. as others say--crockpots can become your best friend. when I have a busy day here at the farm, knowing I won't have the time or energy to prepare supper, I dumpa a bunch of stuff in the pot in the morning, set it to low all day, and then pig out. Soups are great to have in the fridge too--just put a bowl in the microwave and good to go.

That's about all I can think of right now.
