I have been run out of a room with a wood stove...hahaha...that heat can get sweltering..lol

We have coal trains going on the tracks all the time here. WOW--they are long and packed with coal. And they run constantly. Every time I get stuck at one at the crossing, watch all that coal go by, I think of PA and our stove..HA HA
Having your windows open in January while you prance around in your shorty shorts might just be a sight to see, are the neighbors giving you free wood by chance? What does Freud say about that coal train?
:yuckyuck

I really don't know what to say other than you almost made me spew my refreshing beverage!!!!!!

I love a wood burning fireplace. I feel guilty using one though. Here in Colorado we have a lot of days in the winter when they are prohibited. They do have a rather high carbon footprint. Just in case you are not aware, don't burn the rot resistant treated wood.
Yes sir and to the rest of you that means pressure treated yellow lumber, gray green with time.
Thanks XPC. I had a brain ( word for passing gas, must be a dirty word) and couldn't remember the proper term. Does anyone know if the new chemical they are using to treat the wood now is also toxic when burned?

Yes supposadly thye have taken the chemical out but I (chromated copper arsenate ) but I think they just lowered the content. I use the stuff a lot on new decks we do. I actually just bult my own front deck with it. Problem is it does splinter a lot over time in the sun. Plus side it last a long time and can be painted after a year in the fun. OS that helps with splintering. Most people are switching to Azec decking. Stuff last longer than wood but is a plastic/ wood product. Just did a massive deck with the stuff and it sits on the ground. DO NOT BURN ANY PT WOOD!!!! I do not recommend using PT wood in your garden. I am a carpenter so I have some what of a clue on this stuff. I do prefer ceder products but they run twice to three times more in cost. I have to redo a massive 35x15 deck on the back of our house and I am going to try and do locust posts this time from the woods outback. Thanks Don

O yeah, here's a link to my woodstove project. Italian tile with nice oakman decos are going on the side. Tile is in and my tile guy hopes to have it tiles by next weekend. Boy we can't wait!!!! I want wood heat...nothing like it. Here in the free state of MAINE burn baby burn.. no restrictions. http://www.bartertown.com/trading/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=97298

In 2005 they took most of the bad stuff out and even say it can be used in gardens. when I build animal shelters and garden boxes I would prefer cedar and be safe but cost dictates that I lead line my peppers suspenders.

your link requires registration?

edit - bad linkage

I have a wood stove and a pellet stove and radiant floor heating from propane. I can barely afford to run the propane.
The pellets are easy and, for the length of time I use heat, not to expensive.
But the wood stove is fun- I can sit in front of it and read and watch the fire. It really heats the place.
I pay for wood too but I do believe it is economical even at the huge prices we pay here-$300 per cord of good wood delivered.
If you are really going to do it, there is a tas credit for this year for buying an energy efficient one.
enjoytheride can you not get whole logs delivered to your home? No one buys cords around here, they just order a truck of logs and cut them themselves.

You can burn cedar (lots of people burn it here, I have a huge pile from doing horse fencing LOL), you should never burn Pressure Treated lumber.

A few of my neighbours get in the "scraps" bundles from the local saw mills that are filled with odds and ends, slivers, etc. of wood.

In all of the states I have lived in you either buy cords or face cords (ricks) a cord is 4'x4'x8' (128cu.ft) and a face is 16"'x4'x8' which a full size pickup truck stacked even to the bed can carry. In my area a full cord costs about $150 and will break the axles on most pickup trucks (5,000 pounds).

luls xpc, by truck of logs I mean 18 wheeler of logs. Then again, I kind of live near/in logging country.

The metric conversion of logs to chunks always gets me confused.
