LOL, so lucky, I don't think that is possible! But what do I know! LOL

So Should I lay the green down, or try to stand them up?

I need to ask the woman I am getting them from how much sun hers get. My yard is pretty deep shade, but the miniatures in purple and yellow that I already have thrive in it. I have areas with more morning sun and more afternoon sun, or more shade, so depending I can adjust where I plant them.

Moolie, the woman that is giving them away said "purple/lavendar bearded" so we'll see next year what they turn out like! I am very excited!!

Little things make me happy... and this makes me really happy!!
Oooh, sounds pretty!

Yup, stand the green up. I've never trimmed them when planting, but definitely cut the spent flowers off right away so the leaves feed the rhizome well for next year :)

I am very excited Moolie!

I ended up planting three little groups of about four or five rhizomes each. Some of the groups were larger, and some were barely one little lump, and looked a bit like onions, so we'll see what happens. She said that they had been in pretty strong afternoon sun, so I planted one group in a spot that now gets pretty direct sun due to a couple trees being cut down (boo cause now the house gets more sun too!), and the other two I planted in two different locations with more shade, so we'll see what happens. My mini's do so well in pretty thick shade, so I am hoping these guys will do well, too. Now project cover-the-yard-in-iris begins! LOL
It'll be a little while before the mini's have finished blooming, and when they do, I am going to thin them out as well, and move some of them around. Hopefully I can get a good amount spread out so that they multiply everywhere!

Yay!

As long as they get some sun you should be ok, I had a clump at my old house that got about half a day of sun and they seemed to thrive along with the ones in more sunny locations :)

That is encouraging!

Now, if only it didn't take me 4 years to figure this out... the yard sure would look a lot different!
