Lets just say my childhood wasn't the best. I have large chunks of time missing from my memory, and have severe memory issues. It seems to get worse as the years go by. I just hope they don't think I'm some type of hypocondriac, or something. I'm not sure what I need to do to request it, if there is some sort of list of symptoms or criteria I have to meet to get a scan? This is kinda embarassing.
I'm sorry :hugs and don't be embarrassed. The shame is not yours to bear.

I've been doing a ton of reading on ADD lately, and one book clearly explained how brain trauma can cause lasting problems, including memory problems, ability to focus and process things and even personality and anger-control.

So, definitely get scanning if you can. I think the type described in this book was called SPECT scanning.

I think sometimes "working through" all the issues of a traumatic childhood also tie up a lot of focus and energy. I wonder if that could lead to a sense of "fog" and forgetfulness.

My very best wishes and luck to you. Good for you for taking care of yourself!

No need to be embarrassed here. I never had any head trauma, had fairly normal childhood. No abuse and I can not only not remember my childrens weights, time of birth or the day they were born on. I also miss birthdays because I don't remember them. I remember the months and can get within a few days of them but thats the best I can do. I can never get where I am going without getting turned around and having to stop and think. I have been like that all my adult life.

Get checked out - maybe you will just find that its the way you are. Sometimes worring about things make them worse.

Farmfresh - I will have to check into that iron deficiency thing. I am allergic to large doses of iron. I can't take any vitiamins with iron in them. I have to try and cover my iron intake through my food. I may not be getting enough. Thanks for that info.

pioneergirl - Hang in there - get peace of mind.

Hey Pioneergirl! I work for an internal medicine doctor who is the primary care provider for his patients. We order brain/head scans all the time, and rarely have a problem getting them pre-certified with various insurances. Some of the reasons we do them are for memory loss, migraines, and head trauma, so I'll bet your primary care provider can get a precert for you. Let us know how it turns out!:hugs
