I don't know if anyone noticed but Japan has moved. 8ft. The earth has been knocked off its axis 4".

Now that is a powerful earthquake.

They say that the change in the earth's axis will actually shorten our day. I wish someone would do the math and show us how this will effect us long term. Just crazy.

Thats what Ive read in many places on the web.

I remember when the Haiti earthquake hit. They said it moved the earth a inch or two then. That one also shortened our day by about a half a minute..

Now this one has shortened our days also. Hmm.. Wonder how short our days would get if the earth keeps having huge earthquakes like this.. Not a good thing in my book.

Not crazy at all, it happens often when you get big quakes and similar disturbances, it is not at all a big deal and by NO means unique to this event.

If my husband were here he could quote you the actual numerical amount of the shortening of the day, but it is like a bizillionth of a second, totally irrelevant to anyone except those whose career involves communicating with orbiting spacecraft and things like that, and even there it's just a minor nuisance.

Y'all DO remember, yes?, that coastlines are ALWAYS being remodelled and continents are shifting around and plates moving and subducting and riding up and all that? This is why the map of the world does not look remotely like it did hundreds of millions of years ago? This is business as usual, geologically speaking.

Thank you, Pat. I was thinking the same thing, but you phrased it very well.
