Lovin' The Homestead
It turned off cold the beginning of the week but its supposed to warm up this weekend. Hopefully good weather on Easter. Hubby and his friend, KP made plans to try and trap some coyotes soon. Going to have to put them in the very back of the farm otherwise all we will catch is our cats and dogs. Found lots of deer tracks in our garden this morning. We don't have much planted yet but it seems they are already checking it out. One more critter to deal with. Ahh, country living
My chicks and ducks are doing great. Here's some pics:

Love the Mohawk my silver laced polish "cuddles" has right now.

"Buffy" the buff Orpington sitting on hubby's arm.
They had been somewhat afraid of us, until we started giving treats. Now when we walk in they are lined up by the door chirping for worms. Same for the ducks, fed a few pieces of clover just yesterday and now they love us. Speaking of ducks, they are so messy! We were having to change the bedding 2-3 times a day because they would soak it. We ended up drilling small holes at the end of the brooder for excess water drainage. Then we put in pine shavings and slightly propped the brooder up on the end without holes. We also put the waterer on blocks and keep rocks in it. It's working pretty good so far. They still get the end with the waterer wet but now they can go to the other side and its still dry. We still change it daily but it's much much better.

I agree with you all too. Why do all that work when momma hen can do it for you.
I had a bad feeling when he didn't come home last night. We went and looked for him but it was too dark to see much. Hubby had already buried him before he woke me up to tell me, which is good. He usually stays off the road but apparently someone has thrown trash all along both sides of the road we live on so I'm sure that's why he was on it. It's been really hard on the kids, and even harder on hubby. The kids say they want another dog. I dunno though, going to be hard to get another one any time soon.
they stood in the door way of the run and looked outside and every time they heard a noise or the wind blew they would go running in the coop. Finally Saturday evening they ventured outside and had a blast eating worms and running in the grass. I moved the ducks to the extra large dog cage and the 3 week old white leghorns got moved from the brooder tote to the large dog cage the ducks had been in. I've left the bantams in their brooder tote for now since they are still to small for the dog cage. On nice days we are putting the ducks in the duck house and run that's on the back of the chicken coop. They were wild, running around eating clover and playing in water. I'm still putting them back in their cage at night since they don't have any feathers at all yet but it's nice to have them somewhere else while I clean their cage everyday.
