I'd be revoking someones friend liscence. I can't believe they didn't help you clean up!! That is awful, and thoughtless. Sorry you lost all that stuff, I'd be sooooooo mad at them right now. :rant Some people... I would have at least helped ya clean it up :sick

ARRGGH. Did you tell them yet what happened? Did they do the right thing and at least offer to pay for the lost food? I think I'd be a lot more careful how much access they have after this if they would be so careless of someone else's stuff. I am more paranoid about anything I borrow than I am of my own- and I would think electricity that is yours counts as a borrowed possession!

They did offer up $100 for the lost food.

The did NOT offer any help in the clean up, but they did haul off the 5 bags of grossness in their truck... that stuff was NOT going into the trunk of my car. :sick

I think the worse part is I don't think they would have ever 'fessed up, but they left the extension cord laying out and probably figured I saw it and would eventually put 2 and 2 together. It took them from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon to admit what happened. That's pretty sad...

I agree that electricity counts as a "possession" and they should have asked first. We would have had no problem with it and my husband would have made sure they knew where the breaker box was located (it's kinda hidden).

That is just wrong. They should have at least had the common courtesy to call you and ask if they could plug in - or if you had already given permission - they should have had the decency to check on the house for you.

I'm sorry about the stuff you lost and you having to deal with that ultra icky clean up.

Check with your homeowner's insurance. You might be able to get some reimbursement from them on the lost food. Usually has to be because of electrical outage, but might be worth a shot.

Real friends would have helped clean up, but at least they took the mess away for you. I'd be laying down some new neighbor rules, which would include paying for any power usage and asking in advance/informing you of any issues.

Have fun planning the fall garden, we're wrapping up our garden season here other than some more salad veggies and cold weather veggies that I will plant this week. In less than a month we'll start getting frosts and our first killing frost should come by the end of September, so we'll be covering over the raised beds at night soon. I would love to have a season long enough to get two full crops off the garden :)

:sick Yuck! Nobody should have to go through that. :sick

:smack Sounds like you are trying to start forgiving, but I still wanted to smack them for you.

Trying to keep on good terms with a neighbor/friend is smart, but they owe you the $ 100.00 for the groceries. And a big favor of your choice, whenever you need it - for having to clean that grossness.

I agree, that's just wrong. I have an extension cord into my tack shed. And, I use any electricity very sparingly. I don't want to run up RU's electric bill, and if it were to trip while I was there, you can be SURE I'd let her know since I don't have a clue as to what else is on that circuit.
