So, I went out this morning to do my "normal chores" feed the chickens, ducks, turkeys...then on to the goats and sheep. I always feed the sheep first, mainly because I have to go through thier pen to get to the goats. So, I get the sheep fed, and on to the goats. The 3 "big boys" met me at thier gate....standing on the gate, preventing me from opening it. :/ Here I am 5 ft nothing....tring to manhandle 3 big goats off the fence. I admit, I lost my temper a little...and screamed...OFF THE FENCE!!!!! They all jumped back and looked at me like I had lost my mind. :hide OK, im in the pen....trying to get out the door to the pasture...Little Bambam...living up to HIS name...decided he would get me back for yelling at him. He came at be from under the big goat, I didnt see it coming. WHAM!!! Into my shins. :rant Why you little...WHAM...he gets me AGAIN!! :somad At this point, I pick up my "goat stick" WHAM!! He is NOT afraid of the goat stick. :/ So, I reached down, grabbed that stinky little so and so by the horns...and held him face to face with me...and called him everything BUT bambam. OK, so this was NOT a good idea...FIRST, he stinks to high heaven, and I STILL cant get that smell off my hands...second...did you know, that grabbing a goat by the horns, is more like a challenge?? Time to get a bigger goat stick!! When I let him go...he backed off...and foolishly I was thinking...." yeah, you got that right, you better back off" WHAM!! Oh for crying out loud!! Is he serious??? I mean, really, he cant weigh 20 pounds, but hits like a truck! So I ran out the door....goats on my heals, me running for high ground! Im sure if the neighbors were home they would have been laughing thier heads off...thankfully they work!
SO I throw some grains down....that works!" Little stinky hits like a truck" bambam, is overcome by the smell of food! Whew! He is preoccupied...so I can now feed the others...and get Pebbles out. I have her in a temp pen inside the barn...but will be putting in her fence tomorrow. Now more fighting with stinkybutt! Jeesh, who knew a little guy like that could hit so hard!??? And, why wasn't I warned!???
BIL is here for the week. He is going to build stock panels for my truck! :weee Now more rideing in the back of a minivan with peeing goats!! :sick I will also be able to transport the sheep to the vet if needed, and wont have to pay for the HUGH farm visit. $65.00 just to pull in the drive! Highway robbery I tell ya! I should have been a vet! LOL
So, its raining...the animals are all in thier houses..bedded down..I am inside nurseing bruised shins..drinking coffee.....wondering..Just how tasty is roasted goat??;)

Boys will be boys!

So far I have been lucky. My 3 boys don't attack me like that. They jump up because they want their necks scratched but so far that is it. Obviously the other 3 boys are getting used to their new surroundings. Maybe as time goes on you can find a way to feed them from the outside so they won't mob you when you come out.

UTC...really, they were wanting thier food...well, all but Bambam. He is just an intact mean little snot!! The other 3 wethers, they jump up wanting scratches, and will give me kisses on my cheek. My problem is, when they stand up, they are taller than me!! THATS why I wanted to keep the pygmys...short, easy to handle...now I just have to teach Bambam manners. And besides...LOTS of folks LIKE to eat goat!
Denise...just look at that face!!

Uh oh. That could really mean trouble. That little snot! :smack

Next time he does that, knock him over on his side and SIT on him for a while until he lets out a big sigh of defeat; that means your showing him who is alpha and boss and that he is the weaker one. That should make him behave next time..

To teach the larger men not to crowd at the gate, take your whacking stick and tap or gently 'whack' the very tops of their heads when they stand on the gate.
