That does seem a bit odd that he would be that concerned. You know how sometimes you don't see something until you see it, and then you see it everywhere? Maybe he just came out of the "everything's going to be okay" fog personally and now he's noticing what others are doing.

I guess the flip side of the coin is, it must be reassuring to know you live in a prepared community, come what may!

Maybe thats it! He is finally wakeing up. It is very assuring knowing there are more like us out here...but I sorta thought it all the time. NO ONE gives away canning stuff...jars never really go on sale here...and it is a very small farming communnity and most people in our area...hunt.

On the homefront...hubby and I are both a little out of sorts. We just can't seem to get motivated. Achy, stiff..and...well...just tired all the time. Guess its just the winter blues. Woke this morning to snow! :D I just love snow..I know, call me crazy...but the world is hushed when it snows. We are supposed to get 2 - 4 inches. Got the woodstove going...and coffee. Thats just about all I can muster up for today, so far. LOL

In the woods with the critters
Talking about being SS is something I don't do with many people other than here. Mark, is one of few people that I am okay with talking about my choice of lifestyle.

I suspect that folks are fearing the coming of 2012 or the sign of these times. I think that folks that aren't like us are really searching for a way to be like us. I think folks that hear things in the media hub (remember I said last year the food/grain mill was a media hub) are those that are close to everyone in their community. They would be the last person I would share my choice of living with. If SHTF I wouldn't want to fend off a bunch of folks.

Yup, the wood stove is going here as well, and it has been snowing for couple days now. Nothing has really stuck sep for the snow from last night and this morning. The sun is shining and the snow is falling slowly, don't ask me how that is possible but it is happening right now.

I love the bay window we had put in, as well I have to mention how much warmer it is with the new windows!! I can feel no breezes or a occasional chill and the temp in here is around 65 degrees right now. So far I have had the wood stove going 70% of the time in the cold weather.

I hope the winter blues hasn't come yet for you this year, its too early in the season for that to come. Sometimes its okay to just hang out and have tea and coffee. :hugs

We ended up with about 2 inches yesterday....its so beautifull! The world..or at least my little corner of it...is at a hush. Everything is covered in a thin blanket of white...and resting. I sat outside for a little bit yesterday..and listened to the Blue Jays scream out thier calls of joy over the snow. ( I dont think it was REAL joy LOL) I watched the ducks play around in the snow, even still taking a dip in thier little pond and pools. Silly ducks!! The 3 little kittens experienced thier first snow...so fun to watch. They heard my voice and one came running out of the coop. They sleep in the small coop at night, and catch mice. :D As soon as the first kitten came running out, she stopped in her tracks and looked at me like " what have YOU done?" She stood there for a few seconds...then lifting and shakeing each paw, she turned around and ran back inside the coop. Then Sophie, the moma cat came out to me...and once the kittens realised the snow was...OK..they all romped out in it. They were jumping around, chaseing each other, rolling around in it..it was so fun to watch. They would scamper around for a few minutes, then run back to the safety of the coop to shake off the snow...then back out again. Reminded me of my kids when they were young. Wanting to play in the snow untill they were so cold...then come in long enough to warm up a bit, get dry mittens, and back out. At least with the kittens, I dont have to dry thier mittens. :p
Today we are supposed to get flurries all day as well. I want to fill a thermose of coffee, get on my warmest boots and coat...take a blanket out, and just sit in the woods for a bit....watching the world sleep. Yup, sounds like a good plan for a Sunday afternoon. Hope you all have a wonderfull day!

Out in the woods with some coffee & a blanket sounds like heaven! That is a great way to soak up the peace. Are you going to do a snow angel? The only thing I would add for me would be a journal and nice pen. I love to write when things are quiet and I can take my time.

We got a little over 4 inches from that snow storm. I liked it and I was suprised the ducks liked it too. I thought theyd hate snow since they barely go out when its warm out.
