Yea it was a pretty neat place. We picked up one of her natural goat care books and I'm excited to read it. Lots of herbal supplements for goat care. And the buildings were just really neat. Something I would love to try and do at our house. The materials can be very inexpensive (especially if you scrounge) so it wouldn't cost too much.

I'm thinking of the pop bottle green house would be a great addition to my little homestead so I plan on looking into that real soon

She's a blue tick/black and tan hound dog. And we got her for FREE!!! Dad is registered but momma is not (they were an oops litter) so the owner couldn't really sell them and they were eating lots of food so he was just giving them away. So now we officially have our guard/hunting dog. :love

Plus she is sooooo sweet. And really intellegent. She's following us around pretty well and listening when we call. But she's eating like a HORSE!!!!! :th

Gotta love flea markets.

But I am getting seriously overwhelmed. We have like 3 dogs now (two we already had before we moved to the new homestead as pets). So getting them all to play nice is really challenging. Our one dog is use to being head princess so she is NOT handling this well. And Bella (our new one) is only four months old. I forgot how aggravating puppies can be!! :he

Plus the dairy goat (and we're getting another one wednesday so she can have a buddy). I have milk coming out of my ears!! I need to get on the cheese/yogurt making quick!

And the 20 chicks we are still brooding in the house (I have discovered that I HATE brooding chicks!!Such a MESS!! ) They are now jumping out of the top and perching on the corners. And sometimes they aren't landing back in the tub so I keep finding chicks running around the back of the house. Suggestions anyone??

And I need to work on the garden.

And we have a couple of stray cats running around the property, one of which keeps chasing and attacking our cat. :barnie

So yea. I think things will look better in the morning after a good nights sleep. It's been a very busy weekend and there is an ever increasing amount of work to do around here. But I'm loving it. Just alot of things hitting at once and I'm still on a learning curve with alot of things...which I have a feeling will never change. ;)

So no more new projects this year!!!!    Sometimes I crack myself up.

What were we thinking??!!!!

I forgot how obnoxious puppies really are!!!!! Ahhhhhh! I'm currently hiding outside with the goat and were both rocking ourselves in the fetal position in the corner of the barn. She wasen't too thrilled with the new pup either. So I locked her (the pup) inside in her crate and hightailed it outside into the sun!! New pup has managed to break cups and pee and poop in the house twice already, and one of them was straight diahrrea on MY carpet!!! :he

I think I'll leave the training up to DH. My days off are going to be spent hiding in the barn!

She's a cutie that's for sure! I'd love a blue tick hound.

I saw your question about the brooder chicks - can you put a peice of chicken netting over the top of the brooder? That would keep them confined to inside the brooder. I only allow chicks to stay inside for a week - then it's out to the outside brooder where they're safe from the elements and have a heat lamp. I, too, just can't take nasty chick mess.

Yes I most CERTAINTLY need to figure out an outside brooder. We don't have electric in the barn/coop so I'm trying to figure something out. Until then I'm grabbing some wire to throw on the top! (TY gleno! I am soooo thick headed sometimes!!)

Yea she was an opportunity we could NOT pass up! Even though we are slammed with projects right now there was no way we could so no to her. Ummmm FREE coonhound?? YES please!!

I got a roll of deer netting at TSC for around $20 a few years ago and it has been quite handy. I have a piece that goes over my brooder (child's swimming pool with cardboard walls, so kinda big) and I fold it up and store it in a gallon ziploc and re-use it every year...store it on my pegboard in the garage for easy access.

I pieced the rest together with zipties and used it to cover the outside pen when the chicks get older. Keeps hawks out (mostly...had one Cooper's hawk manage to dive between the zipties once and get trapped inside) and the chicks in and is easy to roll up and store for next year on a cardboard tube from something else.
