Morning keljonma! I sure hope you keep that snow up your way :p

It's supposed to cool off again here today. Might get more snow tonight. :( I am still hoping my ladies will start laying regularly regardless!

I bet your house smells delish......you are quite the baker! That recipe sounds yummy!

Do you ever take orders and bake for people? Like special occasions or something. You sure know what you are doing in the kitchen....along with all the great recipes you are posting.

QA, how are the ladies at your place doing? I saw your Milles are laying, but what about the rest? I saw you got the Flock Raiser and sunflower seeds. Have you noticed any difference yet?
Well, they sure seem happier!! They are still getting their scratch, and they seem to love that! But I have also put down flock raiser and layer free choice, and mixed the sunflower seeds with the flock raiser.

I think I got my first egg from Louisa today! I am not really sure, as she managed to squeeze in with the milles, and refuses to move out! The egg I got today is a shade darker than the Milles, slightly bigger, so it could be a mille egg, or Louisa's very first egg.......other than that, I am getting at least 1-3 eggs a day now! Soooo I would say, yes, I have noticed a difference!

If it was Louisa's first egg that would make her 6 months 19 days for first egg. Pretty good considering the weather we have had this winter. She was always one of my favorites - just so pretty. Isn't she hanging with Polk or Quincy anymore? They used to be inseparable as chicklettes.
Monroe and Elizabeth seem to be the most independent. The other three like to hang out in the coop, even on the days that I open it up to let them out (the warmer days). Louisa likes to stay close to the heat lamps. Quincy and Polk like to greet me (it's a race, who can get to the door first) when I come out in the mornings. I'm still see the three of them together at feeding time. Other than that, Louisa likes to sit with the Milles for some reason. Louisa, Polk, and Quincy will be getting their own coop this spring. And maybe some other cochin buddies. :)

Oh and DH wants an insulated coop, so I won't have to worry over frostbite combes and frozen feet next winter. Or frozen waterers.

I've been changing out the waterers every few hours, too. This morning it was so cold my fingertips were freezing THROUGH my gloves...and I was wearing two pairs!

Monroe has frostbite on the back part of his comb. I think he might lose that part. I cried. The rest of his beautiful come has just a touch of frostbite, but not as bad as the back part. I sure hope it looks better once it is all healed up. :( (no I won't take pics, I don't want to embarrass the poor boy!)
