Who here knits? Is it hard to learn? I need a new project to keep me occupied, since the animals are all gone, no garden, etc. The soap isn't doing it for me anymore (maybe once I start selling, but right now, everything is curing and not doing much for me, lol). Anyways, any advice would be much appreciated!

I DO! I love knitting and for me it is much easier than crochetting. Youtube how to knit and you will find alot of very helpful videos. I had to see it being done before I could do it myself. Diagrams don't do it for me. I started off making pot holders until I got good at them and moved onto scarves. Now I'm knitting socks. (Socks are hard by the way!). I hope you can find some good instructions and get knitting! :D

I knit, but prefer crocheting. Knitting takes too long to complete a project and I lose interest. I'm more results oriented (=impatient :p)

:D I knit and crochet, but crochet hurts my hands faster than knitting does, so I knit more.

I learned to knit when I was 5, my mom used to drag me along when she taught my sisters class at school - I'd sit with the class, and ended up helping those older kids to pick up dropped stitches and things like that.

Over the years there have been long periods of no knitting at all - but the last 3 I've knitted a lot - I think because of the cold winters!

I knit in the English (throwing) way but want to learn continental - I'm working on a wrap right now, but the yarn is bumpy and lumpy and I don't want to try continental right now.
Continental is said to be easier on the hands, and a faster way to knit once you get the hang of it.

I LOVE TO KNIT!!! Sweaters are my thing, wish I had taken pictures before giving them away.

Since I live in S. FL we don't have much use for sweaters ourselves so I give them as gifts.

I knit.

Learning to knit was hard for me. Actually learning was REALLY EASY. (I was about 8 years old).

But my mom didn't know anything other than the basic stitches and she would buy yarn, pattern or instructions for me (they were broke).

So after knitting scarves (B.O.R.I.N.G) I gave up for years.

I'm not sure when I got brave enough to try, but I got double pointed needles and learned how to make socks. It is SURPRISINGLY easy! All you need to know is to cast on, knit, purl (the 2 basic stitches), decrease (super easy) and increase by picking up a stitch.

When you feel comfortable knitting a square (or scarf) and can increase and decrease, I will give you my pattern. I adapted from a pattern I found online. It is very easy.

You would have to learn "kitchner's stitch" which I can never remember and I have to watch a youtube tutorial EVERY time.

I only learned that one recently myself. Love it... I made a bunch of tiny little bracelets for my daughter - using kitchner to join the little strips into a circle.

There are lots of great websites for patterns and instructions. I use Ravelry.com for the most part. But also Knitty.com now and then, they have neat instructions.

I second the loom knitting and knifty knitter. It is very easy and projects fly by. I crochet and learned to knit age ago. But the loom by far simplifies the whole process.
