Washing soda should be in the laundry detergent aisle. The Walmarts around here don't care it or the bars any more (I use Zote). I'm lucky as the little country market closer to my place has everything I need.
The few times I tried regular bar soap, it didn't clean well at all, but we get pretty grimy around here.
