My MIL has had lichen planus for a year now. She has a rash all over her arms, legs, body, etc. (pretty much everywhere but her face). She's been to the dermatologist several times. She's tried prednisone, which helped relieve the awful itching but really didn't help the rash. I've read it can just show up one day and stay for 18 months, then simply leave as quickly as it came, but hers isnt' leaving.

Has anyone had this before? If so, what did you do about it? Are there any other remedies she can try?

NOT Southern, Ca. :)
I know nothing about it. But did a google search just to see.

The first thing that caught my eye is it looks like shingles.

The second thing was the part about it might be an auto immune thing.

My SIL has celiacs with blisters. They told her the had an auto immune thing before she was properly diagnosed.

If it was fungal I would say olive leaf extract orally.

I am sure there are many other health guru's around here who will be able to help more.

good luck to her.

I would suspect Celiacs as well. Does she have any other issues?

I'm not exactly sure. She'd have some pretty big upset stomachs with Celiac's, right? They eat a good amount of processed food and I honestly think that won't change. :/

my brother had it on his arm.. the Dr's said there was nothing to do about it. so he named it and we talked about it like it was a person.. "so hows Rufus today?"

and yep then it just went away. i think he had it for about a year.

the closest thing he ever found for treatment was going to a naturopath and they gave him ancient chinese secret herbs but it really didnt do anything but taste bad.

sorry
:-(

Not at all. I have no intestinal issues with mine.
All neurological, and none really could be pinpointed until I went off gluten.
She could give it a try for a couple weeks, then sit down and eat pancakes or a sandwich.
If she feels awful over the next day or two, then you got something to work from.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread for a while! I'll mention it to her. She *may* be willing to try going gluten free to see if she notices a difference.

Same thing I was going to suggest! :) My SO and I are both heavily gluten intolerant, but while mine gives me the cramps and bad gut reactions his is all emotional/mental. Throws him for a major loop and its like living with the stereotypical pmsing person heavily for about three weeks  :smack He ate gluten while he was in chicago for a business trip but "it was ok because I took this lovely pill that takes care of the gluten" and yeah. It wasn't fun living with him until the majority of it got out of his system :smack

My MIL came over this past weekend and oh my gosh, her poor hands. :hit They were awful. I gave her some plain goat milk soap to try, and some coconut oil to use as lotion, and then found a tube of lanolin and sent her home with those to try and see if they'd relieve any of the dryness/pain/itching/cracking. I also told her about the gluten thing, and she seemed open to it and said she'd try it. I'm not sure if she realizes how much gluten is in everything, but at least she's thinking about that idea. She's ready to try anything, except for prednisone that is. She took it for a while and it made her short of breath, so she says she refuses to take it. Of course that's all the docs are suggesting, so she's going to see a new doc in the "big city" soon. I'm crossing my fingers they'll have some suggestions.

I finally have convinced my Mom and Sister (I believe they are both need to be GF, autoimmune diseases are running rampant in my family) to try going GF, DF. I got them the book Paleo Comfort Foods and the recipes are awesome, so close to regular recipes they said they would give it a go. There are so many really good books/cookbooks coming out for Paleo/Primal eating. It's so hard to actually get them to try it, that has been 2 years in the making for my family. Also since this is most likely internal what supplements is she taking daily? I hope your MIL gets relief soon :hugs
