We learn parenting as we go. They don't teach it in school, I think they should! I made many mistakes as my DD was growing up. She turned into a fine adult.
Don't beat yourself up over it. You both learned from this one. I think I would have let my kid go too, at age five. It would be a different story, with a teenager!!!
You are a good mom. You thought long and hard over your decision and you will do it different next time. :hugs

"I musta got into a patch of chiggers!!" as we say here in the south. I've got them behind my knees, on my back, in my armpits, and in my belly button (among other places). I am itching so bad!

I hate when that happens! Get out the clear nail polish. :D Seriously, those are some itch-causing bugs. We even have a weed down here I call "chigger weed" - it gets a big white flower on it that the chiggers love for some reason.

Yep, just a tiny bit over the red spot. Chigger dead. Wow, I'm getting itchy just thinking about those critters.

To keep from getting them again-
Get some powdered sulfur at the pharmacy. It will smell, but if you dab a TINY bit around your ankles- they wont bite you. They hate it. Mosquitoes, fleas, ticks will also stay away.
Wash your hands after touching it, cause if you ever get it in your eyes- you will never forget the sensation. :hit
The skin will absorb enough of it to make your sweat smell sulfur-y but if the bugs are that bad, it's worth it.

Powdered sulfur? Ok I'll look for it. The bugs ARE that bad around here! The guineas do a great job at eating all the ticks but the redbugs are fierce! Thanks for the tip. What about putting it on my 5 yr old's ankles?

You could, but make sure she doesn't rub where it was applied, then her eyes. I didn't get any permanent damage but they were irritated all day. You also would not want to smell like sulfur for a date.
