And with 4 huge maple trees, it would be nice to put them suckers to use :D

Rednecks think they are tasty...

This site lists them as a survival food...

Dogs like them too apparently...

This guy did a raw vs cooked comparison...

So anyone try these? Maybe with a side of rolly polly boil? :D

I heard these were edible.. But have not tried them..

I figure they might be better than pine nuts.. Those taste a bit to piney.. Well you make maple syrup.. So maple nuts may be better.

I also didnt know if it was only certain maple trees, or any maple trees..

I watched a show on PBS that showed a fella picking and using the blooms from sugar maples in a fritter like you would elderberry blooms or linden blooms.
I haven't had the nerve to try it tho. But they sure smell good right now, I just wish my spring allergies would clear up!

I don't know, but am inclined to be cautious, because red maple leaves are poisonous to various livestock, obviously they're eating more of them than you would of maple seeds but I would still tend to steer clear of red maple because obviously it CAN be bad for the mammalian body.

I did find a few references saying the leaves were toxic to horses.

Seams to be edible much like acorns are edible...you just have to process them a bit first.
