if you guys haven't caught the Travel Channel show Meet the Natives, you've got to make a point to see it. it follows 5 men from a village on Tanna island (near Fiji) on their trip to the US.

not only are there really funny moments, but these guys have the best insights! i love when they get to talking about American food. they should be the sustainable movement posterboys!

yes I have seen it.

cool show actually.

yes they are super basic people. I like how the lady opened a can of yams for thanksgiving and the chief says---doesn't she know that food is lifeless? he was scared to eat it not knowing if it had been in the tin for years and might poison him..LOL

and

when they put up the fake tree in the house for Christmas. She said they honor the hope for spring etc. and how important the symbol of the tree was etc. Well, a fake plastic tree....hmm....these guys thought she was nuts..HAHA

And when they went to the pet store. Heck they eat dogs. They could not believe the food stuffs for pets and the dog sweaters etc...LOL...hysterical seeing their reactions.

yeah, i just watched that episode last night. the pet store was particularly hilarious. i loved the part where they were talking about people keeping rats as pets (which i used to do) and how on Tanna they are a pest that steals their food.

i really loved the first episode, in Montana. when they were in the feedlot, they had some priceless things to say.

Hmmm, I could maybe get a friend to record it for me. It does sound interesting!
Edited: Duh, never mind. I should have read the first paragraph more closely... :p

i know the feeling. i'm only getting to enjoy it because i've been staying with my mom for a month while my dad was out of town (she doesn't like to stay alone anymore). even when i'm not staying here, i use her Tivo as my own personal toy. i can live without tv for the most part, but i would shrivel up and die without the Travel Channel. if i can't be traveling, at least i can be watching!

if you can't get the episodes on the travel channel page, check Hulu.

I saw that part too WZ

they hear a bit about global warming and polluting clouds of smoke and it makes their weather change and they blame the factories for producing that smoke. UGH

I wonder if there yams could use some natural fertilizer....they probably have used the same garden for like centuries...LOL

You get smaller yams if the ground is depleted. Someone gotta tell them to throw chicken poop on that garden...

Just watched an episode last night, they were so cute, innocent yet very wise.

They took them to get pedicures and facials and to an amusement park. :p
