OH my goodness - what a journey back in time! I can smell it too, lol!

My best friend and I had plenty of open space, farms of family members, as well as huge open area by the grade school. At the school, this nice elderly couple would bring lawn chairs and watch (their son was a hobbyist, but moved far away). Great times.

No fancy launch pad systems here. A welding rod, piece of firewood, a roll of black powder fuse, and a match book of matches. Miss those fun times

my neighbor was not very bright. i don't know why i hung around with him because i already knew he was dangerous... one example (from a rather longer list i care not to type :) or :( (take your pick - they're free) ) was the model rocket engines where we dug the powder out of the engine and then had it in a bowl. we tried to get a fuse to set it off but it didn't so what does he do? he lights a match and stands there right over the bowl while sticking the match in there. i said "Noooo...!" but it was too late. *poof* in his face. burned off his eyelashes and eyebrows and ran around flash blind until we could get him to calm down. as you say, memories... :) some fun times and some rather, um, yeah, times... :(

years after going away to college and coming back to town i did see him again and stopped at his house to say hello. as it turned out another old time neighborhood guy was there and at that point i decided i'd never bother again. the other guy was someone who actively went out of his way to hurt me. no need for that sort of person in my life any more. U R DUMPT!
