He looks quite lovely. Behaviorally speaking, is he more like a zebra or more like a donkey?

Its hard, because I have always been around hybrids, never the "real" thing.

Cool fact, in the wild donkeys are attracted to grey mustang mares, our alpha happens to be one:love So he goes wherever she goes, does whatever she does, and would throw himself in front of bullets for her. I used to sit and watch them in the mornings, one time Lady saw a turkey in the trees and went over to investigate. Louie was instantly there, in front of her, protecting her and making sure it wouldn't eat her.

Donkeys get along with ANYTHING, any jerk horse can live with a donkey. So during extreme rains we stick him a stall with anyone, and he just lives with them. Although his BFF from birth, Shetan the Arab, went through a 3 yr period where he didn't like Louie. But they have been together 20 years, everyone needs a break.

During fires, he goes into "I can handle myself, THANKS" mode, and you have to really convince him to evacuate. Going along the same lines as the previous, you can stuff him in a 2 horse trailer with 2 other horses, and no one even lets a hoof or tooth fly. But really, he would hold himself where other horses couldnt in an emergency.

He is incredibly strong, I have handled mules (and gotten my foot broken after they used it as a launch ramp for jumping over a wall!!) and he is even STRONGER. Im the same age as him, 20, and the youngest of us kids is going on 14, and when were handling him we still have to let go if he decides to go somewhere else. We have had him for years, and if wants to go hang out up in my trainers garden, we have to just let go and let him run lol.

But all in all, he is awesome once you get to know him, respect him, and get it all back. I have pictures from last years summer camp of me pulling out ear wax and rubbing his favorite spot, the underside of his tail :D

As far as eating zebra contributing to their eventual demise one would have to look at the evidence. People now eat emu and buffalo (bison technically speaking) and since we started marketing them for meat there has been a HUGE increase in the numbers of both species in America. Yak has also gotten more common since Yak cheese has a gourmet following. Also think of the lowly chicken, since they are a common food source there are actually more chickens on this planet than people! A famous person once said if you want to save an endangered species the best thing to do was to come up with some good recipes and eat it!
