My hubs actually asked me tonight, "I'm not complaining because some of these are really cool, but when will you have enough jars?"
Is there such a thing as enough jars?! :p

Love those old jars! People around here watch too much TV - they post those kinds of things on CL for WAY too much money :/

Good score Moolie!

Happy Canada Day!

We're off for our annual day at Heritage Park : we made a picnic of turkey bacon subs, potato salad, and apple pie--can't wait for lunch!

It's a bust here this year... Very heavy downpours in the last 16 hours, and even if it lets up - and, that's unlikely as the cloud cover is thick - the ground is soaked! Usually we have fireworks starting at 9:00PM out in the park, with most people sitting on the grass. Event cancelled this year, I think.:(

So sorry to hear that rain has canceled some of the fun :(

We had rain in the forecast, and did have a thunderstorm mid-day, but fortunately it didn't ruin our picnic--we just moved up off the lawn into a gazebo-style bandstand and finished our lunch, waiting out the storm with several other families. Then it cleared for a bit, followed by a bit more storm, and it's been back to sunny since about 3pm. Heritage Park has enough indoor displays that we really didn't notice the weather too much, and our girls (who headed off to do their own exploring and enjoy the midway rides) didn't get too wet either.

We had dinner out at a Japanese restaurant owned by the father of one of the teachers both our girls had in Jr. High, and then went for a little play at the playground at their old elementary school, at the kids' request since we were in the neighborhood. All in all a lovely family day out :)

Calgary's Canada Day fireworks happen right downtown, so we usually don't go because of traffic/parking/crowds etc. but we used to be able to see them from our old house. Weirdly, there were fireworks on Thursday night right very near our neighborhood around 10pm, so we got to watch those this year. Still haven't figured out what the occasion might have been, but we enjoyed the show!

So I spent the day painting the newly improved laundry room and now we just need to get the machines back in there and get the shelf brackets up. Can't afford all the shelves I want in total at the moment, but we did buy enough brackets and boards for one wall, so that is going to be a super improvement on a room that was formerly just not working for us. I'll take photos when it's all back together, but here is the before:

This is not my stuff or my washer and dryer, this is the before photo we took before we moved in 4 years ago:

What we did is turn the machines so they are against the back wall of the laundry room instead of sideways like in the before photo (because my dryer door kept hitting the opposite wall), but to do that we had to move the electrical outlets, the dryer vent pipe, and taps/drainpipe for the washer to behind the new location for the machines. I will post an after pic once we've got it all back together :)

In other news, we were sitting watching the news earlier this evening and I did my usual kijiji search for "canning jars" on the laptop, and the result of that is that we just got home from picking these up:

110 canning jars, including 21 2-quarts

and more glass lids :)

The funny thing is that I was going to let it slide because they were in a part of the city that is a bit of a drive for us, but hubs said, "so, jars?" and pretty much got up and put his shoes on. I think he's been bit by the jar-collecting bug :D

Oh, and the shelves that were in the laundry room were only 12" deep and we are putting in 16" deep shelves, so that's why we needed new brackets and boards. The old shelves have found a new life in our garage, where they were much needed for hubs' stuff :)

Wow! Great haul! I wish people would part with jars - cheap - around here! Wonder why the glass lids haven't caught on here? Seems like a smart thing!

Can't wait to see the after pictures! Love that sort of clever redo - I chuckled when I read about the W/D change. I tend to think of something that will work SO much better for me - simple and easy, in my mind - then DH points out that he'll have to move a wall, or relocate the electric lines, or chip out the concrete floor :p Yeah, and????
