This is so simple, it's stupid :p
ASAP wash bite with rubbing alcohol, once dry apply scotch tape over the bite. Leave on for at least a few hours, overnight is better.
I am not kidding, this works. I had some bites on my legs that were keeping me awake at night, they itched so bad. I knew from experience that no amount of cortisone or benadryl would help, and found this tape cure.

Another thing, to try if you don't have rubbing alcohol and tape around at the moment, is to take a couple juicy green plant leaves (not poison ivy, lol, but otherwise it doesn't matter much what kind they are) and smash them into a ball and rub them over the bite real good.

I have no idea if it is the sap or what, but (completely to my surprise when I first tried this a few years ago after having read about it) it actually works quite well. And heaven knows it's cheap and readily-available enough :) You do end up with a bit of a green smoodge there, but oh well.

I'll have to try your rubbing-alcohol-and-tape on my kids next time they get bites, which with the number of mosquitoes we have here will be any moment now.

We've used plantain for bee stings and mosquito bites.

I've never heard of rubbing alcohol and scotch tape before - that is interesting.

I tried plantain and it didn't do a thing. Must have some really potent skeeters this year.
LOL, I pick alot of plantain out of the backyard. My neighbors must think I'm nuts. It has to look odd from their point of view...they never say anything though.

Chickens eat plaintain .. so if you find it doesn't work, you could feed it to your flock. :)

ETA: We have been lucky that the barn swallows and chimney swifts are taking care of the mosquitos this year. However the deer fly are horrendous.

I was helping to host a nice luncheon for well-to-do clients at the winery I worked at a few years back. One of the women got bit by a mosquito and the couple started to leave. Apparently she would get a real bad reaction, and they forgot her medication for it. I suggested the plantain (found and picked some real quick), she figured she had nothing to loose and tried it. It worked so well for her, that they were able to stay for the rest of the luncheon.
There are different kinds of plantain leaves, maybe some of them work better than others. I used the long narrow ones. I even went so far as to plant them in my yard.

I've mixed a little baking soda and a bit of water--to make a paste. Both kids and I react bad to different types of bug bites and this really helps.

I've been using straight ammonia for a few years after reading the ingredients in a expensive little bottle of an after bite remedy. Works good for me and I get bit up pretty good in my garden of weeds. Stinks a little but wakes you up.
