Super Self-Sufficient
Alot of my SS ideas come from my 15 yrs as a Navy wife, from 78-93. We lived frugally, had to. His income didn't get extra wages, as fleet sailors did. Ex was a Seabee.
We spent 2 years in GTMO. 81-83. The base gets their power and water from a desal plant, so everyone coming on base had to get orientation and training. Wives and families. I am sure active duty did too. It was not good to be one to waster power and water, when we had to make it.
Every base house had a clothesline, and we were encouraged to use them. Cold water washing was encouraged. Dishwashing was an issue. Wash in hot, rinse in cold. Baths and showers, always as short as possible. There were plenty of beaches and swimming pools, all were free. There were no heating power plants in the homes, just a/c. We opted out of using the a/c in ours.
All in all, it was a favorable experience.
After that, ex went to Chas'n SC for 2 year. Way too expensive for us. Then, he went back to Gulfport MS. Cost of living was more in our range there.
