You sure have a pretty place there Bee. Your Mom is something else! :)

She is that! :D Had 9 children and a very demanding husband, tons of grandkids and GGKs, gets out and works hard every day still. My folks moved to a raw, overgrown homestead when she was in her late 40s, with 4 kids still at home and started living off grid the hard way....I can't even imagine working that hard and living like that in my late 40s. She loved every minute of it and still does...she truly has the heart of a pioneer and a homesteader. I can only dream of being like her, but will never get there.

She only got her drivers license at the age of 75(Dad wouldn't let her drive before then, but he got so bad with dementia that she had to step up) and she cruises off to town several times a week, mostly to line dance with her lady friends~they used to line dance at the nursing homes for the old folks( pre-C19).

The place isn't so pretty after we had it logged and they left all the tree tops lying around....we'll be starting on cutting those up for firewood this week and will work on it all winter long to clear the paddocks of all the mess. One day it will be pretty again around here. We are working hard to get it so.

It does look rough after a logging crew comes through. My DH has been logging most of his life. We hauled pulpwood when we first got married to make ends meet.

There's always something that needs doing around a homestead. I had planned on working on cleaning out my shed, but ended up raking up 8 loads of leaves for the chickens. The girls needed some leaves in their new run. I was just waiting for them to start falling this fall. They are happily digging away!

Need to do that soon....have tons of leaves down right now and I really need to rake up a few tarp loads full for two coops, but after that I usually just haul bags of leaves from the local town to store for winter bedding. I like to keep my leaves on the land if I can.

Mom runs circles around me too. she can't do roofing any more and i don't much want to do it either. i'm a bit too clutzy for that to trust myself on a roof a lot of the time.

I don't do roof work any more either. It's not that I'm "clutzy", but I just get so tired (from the ra), that I find myself tripping over thin air quite often. I have to really watch it when I'm stepping up. I've planked a few times. :(

Folks, it's time for a new DIY project.....I can feel it comin' on. The back of my log shed is a T total MESS. It's where I throw lumber and scraps against the wall and hope they stick. It's also where various things are lying, leaning or stuck to the wall. There's an old set of cabinets that my Dad used for storage of some things...not sure why, but it needs to come DOWN.

I need a more organized and accessible lumber and scraps storage, tool storage, plywood storage, T post storage and I need to build it out of things I have on hand. What I have on hand are mostly scraps of lumber, things that can't be used for much of anything else but scrapping together some kind of DIY project.

I looked online and got a few glimmers of ideas, though nothing I saw suited my purpose, abilities or the space fully. Most were very complex, involving a lot of wood shop machinery and an actual skill set. My skill set includes using a level, drill and~crudely~a circular saw. That's about it....I've never evolved much from that kind of construction.

So, it's time for before and after pics, a lot of adjusted expectations, and, finally, hopefully, something more functional, less dangerous and better to look upon. I hope to implement mostly pallet scraps of various kinds to produce something sturdy and accessible, but not too awfully ugly. It will be "rusty", as Aliza would say(rustic, you know), but that will match the shed, so that's perfect.

I need to find a good way to store t-posts and fencing scraps. I am waiting to see what ingenious things you come up with that I can adapt to my needs, lol.
You go girl!

I saw one idea where they used a pallet standing on end to store tools.....so simple! Well, why not do the same thing to store T posts? Sturdy, strong, can fasten to the wall~I'd block out the top so that it tilts out slightly for easier access. Such a simple concept and I keep wondering just why I hadn't thought of it before? But, if one did not have a pallet, they could duplicate that storage with just a few pieces of scrap lumber.

If one tilted the pallet out far enough and used chains on the top corners to suspend the tilt from the rafters of the overhang, they could use the V shape of the pallet and the wall of the building to slide rolls of fencing into for storage of THAT item. So, T posts and fencing rolls stored in one neat little, easy to access, station. Why didn't I think of that years ago???
