I like the picture frames that are many pics that change like a slide show. Some of them come with sound so you can create an audio caption...just in case she can't remember some of the family's names when someone asks.

The birdfeeder that attaches to the window is also a great idea.

If she is new to the nursing home, something like one of those fiberoptic Christmas trees or angels make nice "nightlights" and something pretty to look upon. This helps if they wake up in the dark and are scared, can't find their call light. The tree or angel is light to see by and also a constant thing they can see both day or night...it seems to be a comfort.
Hey, the fiber optic thing is a great idea!! Thanks!

This sounds terrible, but make sure to mark her name or personalize every decorator thing you bring in. We fixed up the room my grandma stayed in, but things would keep disappearing! Even underwear and such that we bought her would disappear unless we marked her name on everything. But we changed her blankets and sheets, so that she had nicer ones than were provided, and later they were gone. The staff got an earfull from my mom, that is for sure! But I think when the staff cleaned, stuff did not get put back in the right room. So the moral of the story is, label everything!

might be a little off, but a CD player or something like that

play some of her favorite music--get some CDs of her favs

I know I love to listen to my music and while it is not a decoration, when ya visit you can play some old time tunes she loves. People sure respond to great music!
Very good idea, FC!!

Thanks, I'll make sure to label whatever I send, and I'll pass the word along to my aunt who is doing most of the supervising right now. She said the fiber optic light would be good, but to get one that doesn't flash as Grandma isn't dealing well with flashing lights or something.

It's really weird. She had issues with Dementia before the fall, and she seemed "normal" (for her) before the surgery, but now she's reverted back to acting like a 2 year old. Will that get better? :idunno I hope so.

I don't know if she will return to normal, but I feel for you. My grandma was not the same for the last five years and it was heartbreaking. She was sure my new baby at the time was my older child, insisted upon it so much, we finally stopped correcting her.
It was sad, having the person you know and love be gone, but their body is still there. And she was so beligerent and unreasonable, we could not take care of her ourselves even though we wanted to.

I hope it goes better for your family! :hugs
