Not new to self sufficientcy but new to this forum.I checked out a lot of the posts and like what I read. I and my girlfriend live on 5 acres and grow a lot of what we eat, we also do a lot of canning and dehydrating and are working toward as close to complete sufficientcy as possible. Always looking for new storage processes and recipes, formulas, methods and so on. We garden a plot about 90 ft. x 80 ft. and looking to expand that. Am interested in growing grains this next season as well as black oilseed sunflower for pressing our own cooking oil. Have never grown fullblown crops of either one so it will be an interesting coming season.
I look forward to learning and sharing what I have learned over the years with this forum.

The only domestic critters we have freemotion are a cat and small dog unless you want to count the wildlife which is abundent. Deer, quail, partridge, ducks and so on. We are semi vegetarian as we do eat a very occasional piece of meat, but mostly what we raise as crops.

Farmerchick I just noticed that you are in North Carolina. I lived in Love valley for a while a few years back. I`m up in the north country now, [mid Michigan] lot different raising crops here verses there. I loved the long growing season down there. We had 93 frost free days this last season. Made some things pretty difficult to grow.

That is so cool

I used to trailer my horse up for riding at Love Valley many times years ago.

Barb and me would load up and ride for hours and hours up there! Nice area. But Love Valley isn't what it used to be anymore.

WOW--you are far away now..LOL

(I used to be a northerner---lived in NJ, PA, CT, MA, NH) and down to NC

As I am very new to this forum and forums in general I hope I don`t drive everyone crazy with questions. Where we live we are somewhat isolated so it is a great joy to find others here that are doing some of the same things we are doing.
