Hi all. I'm new to the forum, found it through the backyard chicken forum. I'm in CT, and joined BYC this spring when I started raising chickens (I have a varied dozen - though everyone tells me I'll want more ;) ). That forum has been a Godsend, and this one looks just as valuable. What a great way to support one another - it's like "over the fence" conversations, kicked up a notch! While I'm hardly self-sufficient, I am trying to become more so, in many little ways. I've grown a decent garden for a long time, this year we added the chickens and, with my daughter's urging and guidance, I've also started backyard beekeeping - I currently have two hives. In addition I've been married longer than I can remember, have 5 kids (2 still at home), an American Bulldog, a Boston Terrier (much scarier attitude than the AB) and one parrot.

Welcome to Sufficient Self! :frow

It will be a pleasure to get to know you. Several other Beeks on this forum as well as several Pit owners. You are right there is a lot to learn. I suggest picking an interesting thread and just reading it right to the end!

:welcome You don't have to be completely self sufficient to enjoy this forum! There are great people here who are willing to help and we are mostly learning new things together and comparing results and experiences and asking questions.

I'm in CT too, in the Windham area. Are we close to each other? Not that CT is that big :gig

Did you start beekeeping this spring? I wanted to start this spring, but life has a way of making it's own plans. I look forward to hearing about your beekeeping experiences! :)
