I forgot to answer your question. There is no electricity available here in the park. There is no electric grid up here. Nearest grid electricity is 15 miles away as the raven flies. I like it that way. On the other hand, there is also no cell phone service up here. Mine collects dust. The folks at Verizon called it an antique that works when I put time in it for a special occasion, a visit from my sister to pick her up in town. There are a few folks near here, like 2 miles or more away, who have ground lines. For me, I'd have to purchase a half mile of line, and have it buried and get a lot of paperwork for it. I'd rather have a phone than a computer.

For light, well, right now it is on the bill of my cap. Led flashlight is my up at night light. See what I mean? What others may require big power for, I sip power. All my battery operated lights, and radio, use rechargeable batteries.
That's how we started out, here on our place, in the fall of 2009. We'd run the gennie for a couple of hours to recharge batteries and the cellphones.

We have temporary electric now but oh, how I sometimes miss the "old" days, when we first moved here! ;)

Dawn, is that Evening Shade a town in Arkansas? What a cool name!

Just guessing, but are there old timers around there with their very own varieties of Okra or Cowpea Beans? Or maybe Collards?

On facebook I met a gal with family from Kentucky. Sure enough, they had their very own family Beans, one of which is entirely unique, a mix of 4 varieties that make identical Bean seeds but very different pods. I am working to make sure they do not go extinct!

Hi Marshall,

Yep, Evening Shade is the name of our adopted town and it's huge...just over 450 people. There are also two other Evening Shades in Arkansas on the western side of the state.

I'm sure there are old family varieties here and I'll have to get up with a few people about that since hubby and I are fairly new and accepted transplants to this area.

I'm growing a new-to-me paste tomato this year, Jersey Giant aka Jersey Devil that is considered rare and on the verge of being exstinct. I was born and raised in South Jersey and had never heard of this tomato until moving out here to AR and getting the Baker's Creek heirloom seed catalog. Funny how things work that that, isnt it?
