Are these self-sufficient resolutions?

We are going to try to raise most of our own meat starting this year, when the animals start producing.

I'd give up my microwave in a heart beat if hubby would part with it.
Mine is to can more. I had to pick up a few things to have on hand for the "blizzard" we just got hit with. I had a really hard time finding local non-perishable foods that don't have anything DS can't eat in them. I found a French Canadian pea soup that was okay. Made with lard!! :D and some canned hash. These would only be used in an absolute pinch but it was a wake-up call that I need to make my own to be prepared.

Quit smoking, make huge leaps toward SS because I can't stand relying on others to do what I can do better anyway, and make a potato gun so I can grow my own ammo

Oh, and the microwave has GOT to go this year...maybe I could get DD13 to kill it again...hmmmm.

Here's the thing with ours. It's tripping a breaker when you open and shut the door once in a while. DH can't figure it out. So we keep it unplugged and only open and shut the door with it unplugged. I don't want to spend the money to replace it. I can do anything without it using another method. It just might take a little longer. I don't cook in it. We use it to reheat stuff. What a waste of counter space. I need a good argument.

I'll try that! Wish me luck!!!
Actually I'm going to ask if we can try going without it for a week and see if he (and I) can live without it. If not we may buy a new smaller one....

GOOD LUCK! Oh, and try to find more energy efficient alternatives rather than buying a smaller one. Those things really do suck up some electricity. What do you reheat? Leftovers? Coffee? Leftovers could go in a toaster oven, or regular oven. Coffee...you could just get a half cup at a time instead of filling/reheating. Yeah, not as convenient, but well....nothing worth doing is that easy :hu

Exactly! We have nice toaster oven. In a pinch he could reheat coffee on the stove in a small sauce pan. I'm going to make the suggestion that we try it the week after New Year's when we're back at work and it will be a real test.

I would DIE if I couldn't reheat my coffee in the microwave. :barnie :ep

The one we have now is slowly dieing. What it used to do in 30 seconds, now takes a minute and and half.........We WILL be shopping for a new one after the first of the year. :ya
