My temp gauge says 60 outside right now. It has been cooler this week, mid to upper 70s, so I haven't used A/C in a week. My electric meter will love that. I am NOT ready for frost but current weather I could handle for next 6-8 mos.....will that cancel winter? So be it! Would love that.
NH I fully understand about wrestling larger animals. But so far it has been manageable for me with most being fine on a one to one. It's when they decide to move as a herd that you do not want to be holding the feed bucket with no place to go! No bucket and they come along nicely.
That's why I only have mini horses now. LOVE to ride but --
Even the minis can hurt you!! Most of mine are old, so not real interested in rodeos anymore but 2-300# is way more than I weight and can be a problem if you aren't alert.
I figure goats give milk and are smaller than a cow.
Haven't been outside yet but there's frost on my car! My newest chicks are out there running around like it's nice out... Gotta love hen raised chicks. If I was broodng them they would still be at 80!
In the 50's here last night, still is. Two weeks ago it would have been close to 90 by this time of the day. N. Alabama is very cool and foggy/sunny this morning. I'm loving it!
Well my garden looks fine, so it was a very light frost I guess! Today we went to this big local yard sale. there we about a million people there... And nothing useful for sale. I wanted to find a stroller and pack and play for baby, but the onky 2 strollers there were so dirty, and expensive. Waste of time!
Gotta go do some chicken rearranging. The cockerels are getting a bit too rough with the pullets so we're moving the keeper Dorking cockerel and the 6 hens that we got in that batch into their permanent home in their side of the big coop. Let the other 4 boys fight if they want, but do it away from the hens!
So DH and I are thinking instead of getting sheep we should set aside the money we would have spent on their hay and spend it on another goat in spring. Because I REALLY love goats and they're also edible lol.
Going to put Clifford in with the girls next month. He's not totally big enough yet (at least for my tallest doe), I hope he figures it out by the end of breeding season.
