It made me really wish we had LGD's! Also, feeding everyone by myself after dark last night made me wish for one. My house dogs sat on the porch. Thanks, glad to know you've got my back guys!

Up until the last few weeks, I'd have about a bottle a week. A glass before bed 3 or 4 times a week... Now a cup of chocolate milk is my replacement, lol! :hu

Our fridge is full of chickens! Aging for a day, in the freezer tomorrow night. One turkey and 13 meat birds. Hubby is having a rough weekend so the others live to see another day. He is so over processing chickens. He really would be happy if he never had to do it again! He sent me home with a cooler and I got those shrink wrapped and wrapped up some pig organs for the dogs. Today's high was a whopping 39 degrees!

Tomorrow we will go get the next section of pork and get that wrapped up.

Anyone use pork belly for anything other than bacon?

Dang good progress! I do feel for your DH - I really don't enjoy anything about processing chickens. It's to the point that DH and I are contemplating going totally back to quail.

He had to do another 25 or so today. He's actually still processing... It's really cold out!

I'm trying to cut back on the chicken we eat because it's such a giant pain. Never had quail. Easier to process? Aren't they tiny? Doesn't seem like all that much meat!

They are tiny - but tasty! When we eat quail DH will eat three and I will eat two.

They lay really well - even if it takes about 3-4 of their eggs to equal a hens egg! But, I can process one in 5 minutes or less. Seriously!

They are mature and laying in 6 weeks - also big enough to eat at that time. Lots of positives and the only negative is that you need an incubator to get any more. They rarely brood their own eggs.

That's awesome. My chickens (thus far) don't brood either so we have to incubate anyway. They're not very helpful!

Someone was just telling me they switched to quail primarily because they supposedly don't have issues with salmonella in quail eggs like chickens can... And they wanted to make mayonnaise and needed raw eggs to do so? I don't know... She loves them anyway.

Well we are going to try our pork tonight, so I'll have to report back on it! I'm making meatloaf with ground pork and mashed potatoes and corn. Yum! Everyone is always picking on meatloaf but I really love it, lol!
