Neko-Chan - Actually, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn can all be seen with the naked eye, though they appear to be star-like (Saturn looks kinda like a yellow star). No twinkling though. With a good pair of binoculars you can even see a few of the moons of Jupiter, but a small telescope does work better.
The "objects" in the photos are way too large to be a planet, ISS, or any other man made object. It has to be purely a matter of camera optics, or (remotely) possibly an atmospheric reflection.
Personally, as smart as I believe Mackay to be, I think that our chains were being pulled to see if anyone would bite. However, it is nice to have a more lighthearted subject to discuss after all of the worlds' recent events.
