One thing I do often is that I use applesauce in baking recipes instead of oil or butter. It works great for breads, pancakes, cakes, etc.

Applesauce is a good substitute trying to save on too much fat. I use water instead of milk in most recipes because I rarely buy milk and if I do I will cut back to half milk and half water. The only thing that I use for milk is puddings, white gravy and mash potatoes. I do buy buttermilk for ranch dressing and will use that in mashed potatoes.
