No electricity in the coop- How do you cope with water in the winter?

I had a revelation last year ... If you dump them out when you shut up the chickens for the night you have less stompin' in the mornin'! ;) :lol:
That could work. But I'm lazy and don't shut them up at night, so that would mean a whole 'nother trip. :D

But really, tipping it over a quick step on it works fine. One of the cool things about that kind of container, the ice doesn't really want to stick to that rubber, anyway.

Maybe I should try your idea next winter, see how it works.

In summer mine are in a pen with a lid most of the day and out to forage only in the evenings. I shut the pen but not the coop.

In the winter however I shut the pop door every night for the sake of heat. It gets really cold around here.
