Non toxic weed killer

Years ago we had a neighbor that would just pour table salt in all the cracks of her sidewalk and drive. Seemed to work for her.

I've used straight vinegar with mixed results. It seemed to work best during a long hot dry spell. The one bad thing was the dandelions/deep rooted weeds would come back in a few months. I didn't mind having to spray again since cost was only a few bucks for a gallon of vinegar vs $20 or so for commercial sprays that didn't always work completely either, plus it wasn't toxic to animals or kids. My yard just smelled kinda 'pickled'

I tried the boiling water/vinegar/salt/soap combination a few times on my brick walkway. It DID kill the weeds & grass but they grew back after a couple of months. :/
