I was listening to "The People's Pharmacy" on NPR yesterday. Their guest was Sally Fallon, (arthor of many books) who wrote the book Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and Diet Dictocrats

Sally Fallon has been bucking the nutrition establishment to suggest that the old ways of eating have very real and important benefits. (Fermintation was mentioned a lot. And by the old ways she means the really old ways!)

She also founded "A Campaign for Real Milk" dedicated to creating consumer awareness of health benefits of clean, whole unpasteurized milk from GRASS FED cows. ;) (www.realmilk.com)

It was a very interesting program and I am definitely going to order this book. I just wanted to share with y'all.

Her website is www.WestonAPrice.org

Also you might enjoy Eat Fat, Lose Fat by Mary Enig and Sally Fallon.

I have been wearing out my copy of Nourishing Traditions for a couple of years now. It has turned my health around, and I am still working on many of the principles, which I am sure will give me more benefits. It is an amazing book.

I taught one of my weight management classes tonight, on fats, and you should've seen the happy faces when they found out they could have butter, whole milk, chicken with the SKIN, no more low-fat anything! It was a great class, I had so much fun, and also demystifying all the different types of fats. Loved it. No one wanted to leave, after an hour of hearing about carbon and hydrogen pairs and such. But I think all they really heard is, "You can eat butter!"

(I'm originally from Wisconsin where it was a crime to buy margarine!)

This is definitely the type of book(s) for me. I tried to put on a pair of last years shorts Sunday and :ep ! I hate diet foods too, full of chemicals. So to loose my hibernation gut which book would you recommend the most?

I own them both and love them both, so I vote for both! You will love them. Or just order them from the library and see if you can just read Eat Fat, Lose Fat and buy Nourishing Traditions, which has more recipes, but not all the coconut recipes in the other one.

I made the "Mary's Blend" oil with coconut oil and got sick of coconut flavor pretty quick! So it is an individual thing. I like animal fat and it is a big part of my diet.

I am always within 5-10 lbs of my ideal weight. The only time I get a bit offtrack is when temptation gets me, or I am travelling and eat more white flour or sugar than I should. Three candy bars in one week and I can literally gain 5 lbs.

This sensitivity may lessen if I stay on the straight and narrow (and eat more lard!) for a couple more years. I can handle that!

Oh, a word about lard, watch the label for "partially hydrogenated" and don't buy that brand, it will poison you and make you more insulin resistant......aka, fat.

I hear ya!

I am very sensitive to flour (both wheat and white) and sugar. This is why I eat the sprouted breads...no flour. I must stay away from refined and raw sugar because I have low blood sugar and it makes me very drowsy. (I still cheat once and a while, usually in the late evening when I am ready to get groggy.)

So I am excited to get both of the books as you recommended. I hope Amazon carries used copies of them. :fl

Me too!

Did they ever get their license plate motto changed from "America's Dairy Land" to "Eat cheese or DIE!" like they wanted?
