I was wondering where my appetite had gone. Then I read about a puke fest (anyone ever see Stand By Me?? LOL). But that pic of the bacon chocolate... mmmm...
well. still nothing to report. i think the goats are faking it so i'm ignoring them now.
on a sad note... one of our older hens died in the night. dear old Barnee was probably 3 or 4 when we got her... five years ago! i've been worried about her - she seemed to be winding down. she didnt lay many eggs but she was a good old girl so we just kept her around. i cant believe she lasted this whole hard winter then the one warmish day... there you have it i guess.
she was lame when we got her but she got around pretty darn good. i think she took a tumble from the goats last summer - which slowed her down even more. i'd have to put her on her perch most nites tho - especially lately. after all these years she finally got used to me picking her up. sheesh!
but the good news is that one of the other hens hatched one of the 5 eggs Barnee laid last summer - so we now have "Baby Barnee" who is the spitting image of our grand old girl.
and now, of course, i'm late for church.
happy sunday everyone! if you hear the sad, low tones of taps being played...its us.
The charity event we did was for chocoholics and there was a chocolatier there that had a dark chocolate with bacon....I was drooling!
Sorry about Barnee...I'm gonna have 2 or 3 like that around here soon....They are good old girls and will die a happy death here on the farm of old age.
Was Barnee a barnvelder or are we the only ones that name our chickens with breed type names? sorry about your loss but it sounds like you enjoyed her while you had her
I only asked about the name because we have two barnvelders, a roo and a hen, named Barnie and Bernie
