Wow, I am crazy-busy for one day and y'all manage to get 150!!!! posts up on a piggie! Hope you can keep him, Sally, if so, you might get him a companion. I am thinking of getting three pigs, finding someone who wants me to do the work of raising a pig for them in exchange for help on processing day. One for me and dh, one for mom and dad, and one for.....???

Well, the universe gave me an animal gift today too! I've heard some people eat possum, but we let it go. I guess the universe loves BBH more.
I wondered where Earl went....... :hu You know, if you open the kitchen door he will come right in and make himself at home! :thumbsup

:yuckyuck Too funny Bee!

That little guy slept in until 10:00 this morning! His house was filled with straw and some shavings and he made himself a nice little cozy nest in there and would not get up! I really thought he was dead!!

So that brings about another question, he seems healthy enough, but is there anything I should be worried about?

If nobody claims him I would like to raise him as naturally as possible.

I could be wrong, but he looked a little...well....wormy to me. Small body, big head, lots of hair. Depending on the breed, these could be signs of poor nutrition.

Wouldn't hurt to worm the little fella. :)

pumpkin in a natural wormer if you have any laying around??? you can also supplement with COOKED eggs (sure they will eat raw, but raw eggs have a protein inhibitor so hard boil).

you could also throw in some hay - they'll eat it and it will keep him entertained.

the first day we ever had pigs i called Bourbon Red, hysterically, that i had killed the pigs! but nope. they are lay-abouts. and he's just doing what babies do - eat, poop, sleep. repeat.

:)

yep! can you imagine that!?!! BBH can give it a try and see if he starts putting on the pounds. if he is really infested she might have to try the chemical wormers and yes! they are superduper expensive!!

how funny about the coal - one of the old timers told me the same thing! he said from time to time to throw a half burned log into their pen and they would eat what they needed! so we did. and they did.

Wow that is interesting. I know birds will eat wood ashes. The ashes contain salts and minerals they require. I used to see them in my garden eating the ashes I had sprinkled out.

I put ashes in the dry area of our yard for the chickens to bathe in. My grandmother did that as pest control!
