but you dont use your ducks for meat, do you WifeZ? just eggs?
So far just eggs. Every time I think of butchering a duck, my husband (aka the Stay-puffed Marshmallow Man) talks me out of it. We are both pathetic :gig

(Honest..I had no idea he was a city boy when I married him!!! He was from a small town in the Adirondacks. I thought they ALL hunted up there!)

Chickens all the way for me. Eggs and meat plus entertainment.
Now if I could just teach them to give milk. They would be the perfect farm animal. LOL

hee hee hee yep. my big ol redneck hubby went all soft on the ducks earlier this summer and declared he couldnt do it. today he scooped up one of the ducklings and was snuggling her... it was very cute.

but

i'm having my butchering buddy (another big old red neck) come down soon soon soon for the Hog Harvest '09...he'll help me dress a few of the ducks as well.

i can dress just about anything as long as it isnt smiling at me....

I would consider rabbits. They are such easy breeders you might never run low on meat.

That being said, I am getting chickens. WOO WEE! I have gently pestered my husband on and off for 14 years to have chickens. I brought it up the other day and said he would build me a coop. :D

Goats!

Depending on the breeds.. if you go with Cashmere/Angora you can get milk, meat, fiber, and manure for compost. As well as brush clearing and entertainment. Course, I personally will stick with my Nubians, so no fiber there really.

Mushrooms sprung up where I pastured my goats and provided us with bumper crops of "pinkies".
