I laughed at the Hillbilly remark. For years the school where I worked had a multicultural festival each year around Christmas break. I used to complain (LOUDLY and OFTEN, but with a grin) that they never included MY culture in the festival ... Hillbilly! I wanted to play some bluegrass, eat ham 'n' beans and have a watermelon seed spitting contest - but it was always a no go.
FF, you raise a good point. When was the last time anyone celebrated the "cultures" of our own great land. That would mean super-health-nut dishes from Californians, Creole dishes from New Orleans, pizza from Chicago, etc. Hmm... makes for good ideas for a potluck barbecue.
