Some good ideas here. :)

I've owned several businesses. I'd say for one thing, be flexible. You might have to change due to your market or competition. I really agree with the idea of cutesy things for travelers. People will often pay premium prices if they can give an item as a gift. You do NOT want to ne in competition with mass market. You'll never beat them on price. Go for QUALITY, not quantity. :)

Peant brittle often sells well too. Actually, many people will buy frivolous things when traveling, or in hard times I'm finding. I'd vote for all the healthy stuff, and people DO seek out healthy, green, local produce. But they will also treat themselves on vacation. I'd sell both if I were you.

And find out about all the local and federal laws regarding taxes and recordkeeping. No fun, but you do NOT want to be trying to pull it together under a deadline with incomplete records.
Excellent advice! I pay outrageous prices for treats on vacation because it IS vacation and our vacations are rare and cheap. Plus, it's usually a gift for someone back home taking care of kids, chickens or the garden :)

Haha ... I bought peanut brittle from a little stand where I stopped to use the facilities. I also bought it at my local feed store.

I can and have made my own peanut brittle but ... I'm proof people will buy it too ;)

You know.....when my mother and I would hit a few of the "local" stands...we would see birdhouses...gourds...dipper spoons..all grown on thier "farm" Crafty little items, smallish..that people will have the room for in thier trunk/suitcase. Peanut Brittle is a great idea...as is breads, muffins, and crackers...to go with the jams/jellies. Fresh made peanut butter set alongside as well. Dont forget a small corner with handy things like plastic forks, knives, and napkins. Maybe home made fudge? YUM!

my neighbor is selling homemade apple pies like crazy at the farmers market. $12 for a nine inch pie and they are really really good.

A small pie in a 4 or 5 inch tin might be a good idea too.

Make our homemade laundry soap. My neighbor sells it for $5 a gallon.

Sell fresh live herbs in pots. basel, tarragon etc year round, not just in the summer

Find some kind of christmas decoration to make and sell.

my other neighbor makes and sells a cookie mix, like double chocolate chip cookies. all ingredients are in a decorative package, ready to go.

Be sure to check out the governmental (darn 'em) regulations for selling food products you process at home. You will have to have the kitchen where such items are processed inspected. (Sorry to be such a drag!)

O MY GOSH!!! Y'ALL ARE WONDERFUL!!!!!:clap:thumbsup:celebrate

We do have peanut brittle currently along with fried peanuts, sugar coated peanuts, cajun peanuts, roasted peanuts, green peanuts, dry peanuts, boiled peanuts, cajun boiled peanuts.....the list goes on and on. I've canned some boiled peanuts too! I've actually emailed the county today to see what I would need to have to be legal...darn them!

I'm loving your ideas and making notes on all of them!!!!! Thank you so much and keep them coming!!!!!

I am always happy to find local honey. Orange blossom honey is yummy!

I could eat boiled peanuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As the mom of seven ,I'd suggest including toys and games. Simple handmade toys are still irrisistable to kids and adults, alike.

Pop guns, potato shooters and slingshots are still loved by boys. Handmede cloth dolls, tic, tac, toe boards, etc.....

How about chocolate covered peanut butter cups.

Dang,I'm getting hungry!

Good luck!!!!!

ETA: just saw above post. Cancel the peanut butter cups : (
