It sure is. I kept all my stuff because, well, I paid for it. and I may once in a while do some grooming but when I want to not because I have to

Congrats on the change. They are advertising for relief carriers here too. I have a friend that is a relief carrier, and she has been all over doing relief on different routes as carriers need to take time off and there are not enough other carriers to cover. I bet that once you learn, you will probably get asked to do different routes. She actually started turning some down because they had her working 5 and 6 days a week and she wanted to only be part-time.
I thought about it but I did not want to be on call for whenever the regular carrier that I was considering doing the relief for, decides one morning that they cannot do it or something and calls in and then the relief carrier was obligated to go in. But for many it works.
You will probably find a few people that you want to groom for that were good customers and good animals to work with. If not, then don't.
I am 31 years being a milk tester but it has gone from full time to part time as farms sell out. We have had a few testers quit and have absorbed those farms between several of us, because some of us have lost some from selling out over the years. But I am probably a bit older than you and I am getting to the point that I am thinking about getting out in another year or 2. Just getting burnt out, of the hours and all. I have some things I want to get done this year financially, then will give it alot of thought. But I will not be looking for another job then, just our cattle and my gardening and such. Might try to get into some selling at Farmer's market or just selling here on an honor system. I hope that after my knee replacements get all healed and I get back to "normal" activities, that I will be able to garden and do more here, and with our cattle again.

I probably will be working quit a bit. One postal worker said Id be doing all the routes eventually. I know I'll be working weekends which sucks. I hope I get at least one day off so I can keep up with my stuff around here.

That sounds like a hefty schedule. I hope you get one day off as well, but with postal workers now delivering Amazon packages on Sunday it seems like there is never a day our postal worker isn't working. Hopefully your routes are easy and you are able to save a lot for retirement

Please don't burn yourself out. You need to live and relax as well as work but that's only imo. So many people are running like crazy here.

I finally did it. I quit my job of 10 years at the veterinary hospital I worked at as a groomer. I have been grooming for almost 30 years, and finally decided I no longer wanted to do it.
The past couple years it has been getting harder on me physically. My hands are stiffening and I keep dropping stuff. Slight carple tunnel with tingling and feeling cold. I figured that I should stop now before I completely disabled myself and could no longer do anything.
A couple months ago, something happened that made me realize I needed to leave. I wanted to leave.
One day, the rural carrier that delivers the mail left a card in the box. The P. O. was hiring carriers. I applied. I was offered a RCA position ( rural carrier assistant) at the office near my home. I accepted.
I start orientation on Jan. 3. I am getting a Jeep ( because you know you have to use a Jeep to deliver mail) on Monday from a private seller.
I am honestly a little scared, but excited to start this new chapter of my life. It was a long time coming.

Hurray for you! Grand adventures await! And who needs an excuse to purchase a jeep! (WEE!)

I tell ya what....just got home with picking it up and Im going........what the bleep was I thinking? Driving a vehicle with the steering wheel on the right side is scary!
Plus, the mirrors are different. I made sure no one was coming if I changed lanes because its like the left side has fish lense mirrors? And the rear view mirror is small. Still trying to adjust it.
I dont like the tires on it. Feels like they are spongy, you know? And if you hit a small bump or pothole, that thing was bouncing everywhere.
When a big rig went by, I really had to keep ahold of the wheel. One rig passed me and just started coming over in front of me and if I hadnt slowed down, he would of wiped me out.
My butt cheeks were seriously gripping the seat!
My brother sent me pics and suggestions on better tires for it and a bit smaller diameter. He said a few inches shorter should help with it feeling more stable. Center of gravity wont be so high.
Even though when I first quit, I didnt really feel upset or scared. But now I am. I hope I didnt screw up.

Several yrs back I had a chance to do what you are....sub delivery. The thought of right side driver scared me beyond words! In Europe it's the norm. Not here. Good luck

Yep, I'm sure this will take some "test drives" to get the right mindset.
