Peanut butter eggs (or other easter candy recipes)

I'll probably share my mother's recipe once I get it, but, figured with Easter coming up, this may be a fun thread. Share your peanut butter egg or other easty candy recipes. Oh, heck, share all, so that it's not just junk food, lol.

This is a one we do every year the night before easter:


1cup whole pecans
1tsp vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch salt
1 cup sugar
zipper baggie
wooden spoon
tape
Bible
Preheat oven to 300 degrees (this is important, don't wait till you're half done with the recipe!)

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, He was Beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1tsp vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

So far, the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar.

Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66.

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matthew 28:1-9.

I don't know. It's sometime in April I think. We've always celebrated the Christian holidays, but we never really put any emphasis on the religious part of it. It's more about family for us.

Hm, Interesting. My family isn't religious and my dad isn't really into holidays. He's too cheap for Christmas LOL. I don't think my dad could have kept the Easter goodies a secret, he's already so bad with Christmas that I've been picking my own present since I was about 10 years old, wrapping it myself, and pretending to be surprised on Christmas day LOL.

My nan is super froogle so she used to buy the rice crispies chocolate easter bunnies the day after Easter when they're 50% off

We color the hardboiled eggs on saturdays and on sundays a couple of the adults would hide them in the yard along with sugary treats and toys. Once all the hardboiled eggs were gathered up, we made eggsalad and potato salad, using up all those eggs. We like to have a brunch of good breads, bagels etc and cheeses and coldcuts and whatever condiments anyone feels like making or bringing to the table along with the eggsalad and very eggy potato salad.
Since my DD is also hypoglycemic, we stayed away from sugary stuff and focused more on little toys. I also got spring themed cookie cutters and made my own easter cookies, using way less sugar and oat flour and whole wheat flour. It was just as much fun decorating those cookies, as decorating easter eggs.

Aw. We don't have enough family to do all that! Sounds like a great time FarmerDenise. In our family, its only the 4 of us in Canada unfortunately. My nan lives in England, along with my Great Auntie and Great Uncle, and my uncle lives in California and is too busy outdoing his American wive's family lol. Although now his daughter (I think she's 7 or 8) has heard we have a pony and a horse and chickens and mini goats, they're trying to get an invite to stay at the farm

When I was young, we didn't have much family around either. Both xDH and I moved from the east coast to California. So we did this with friends and their kids. Then eventually my sis moved out here and had kids and so then they joined our group.
The kids all have fond memories of our easters.
